Since I have started performing, I have learned how powerful music can be for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. A quick google search yields multiple sites that discuss the connection and how music can evoke memories, shift mood, and stimulate positive interactions.

Linda Maguire wrote, “Musical aptitude and music appreciation are two of the last remaining abilities in patients with Alzheimer’s.” Because these two abilities remain long after other abilities have passed, music is an excellent way to reach beyond the disease and reach the person.
